The Braai4Heritage crew visited the Cradle of Humankind on Saturday, April 1. It is currently touring South Africa’s 40 incredible Heritage Sites, over the course of 40 days, in order to pay tribute to them and promote National Heritage Day, held annually on September 24.

The Braai4Heritage crew has been touring the country since 13 March, driving to each location and marking their visits with a special braai at each stop.

During their visit to the Cradle of Humankind, the crew stopped off at the Sterkfontein Caves, where they were shown around the Swartkrans site by esteemed scientist Dr Bob Brain. They then enjoyed a braai while taking in the incredible sunset views of the area.

On the Braai4Heritage website, the man behind the initiative, Jan Braai (real name Jan Scannell) commends the staff at Maropeng on the “five-star treatment” the crew received over the course of their visit, saying, “They are knowledgeable, professional and take the management of this World Heritage Site very seriously. I strongly advise anyone who has not been there to go and see it for themselves.”
