Christmas lunch at the Tumulus restaurant
Take the angst out of cooking Christmas Day lunch: Maropeng's Tumulus Restaurant has come up with a buffet meal that is sure to whet anyone's appetite.
Head chef Peter Langa and his team have spent hours devising a special Christmas lunch buffet, which includes a carvery and a range of delicious salads, and for dessert a few South African favourites, including malva pudding and peppermint tart.
Guests will be greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and be seated at festively decorated tables, and the children will be given sheets to colour in.
Prepare yourself for a leisurely affair: the buffet will be served between 12h00 and 15h30.
Langa says the meal was inspired by contemporary cooking style. “The menu has French-style elements, in the way the food is prepared and the use of different herbs, including micro-herbs, but it is South African, and all our ingredients are local,” Langa says.
The starter menu includes chilled beetroot soup, cold meats and vegetable spring rolls with plum sauce.
Langa and his team will be on hand at the carvery slicing meat, including beef topside, turkey breast and roast chicken, to specification. Salads will include greenbean chakalaka and glazed beetroot and orange.
Hot vegetables include rosemary roast potatoes, and samp and red kidney beans.
What would Christmas be without dessert? the chefs will tempt you a selection of puddings, including: dark malva pudding served with fresh cream custard, homemade chocolate eclairs and peppermint tart.
The meal will end with tea, coffee and handmade chocolate truffles.
Book now! The buffet meal will cost R300 for adults, and R200 for children between the ages of five and 14.
