Facebook fan(atic) and long-time friend of Harry the Hominid, Melanie Feris, took her family on an excursion to Maropeng and the Sterkfontein Caves, in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage site.

She shared her photos of her family outing here – on Harry the Hominid’s Facebook page.

“Three generations of Feris family members recently visited the Sterkfontein Caves and Maropeng,” said Melanie.

“All I told them was to wear takkies, and be prepared to learn a lot and have great fun. There were a few grumbles from the teens that they would have to spend their Saturday ‘learning’, but the excitement of what the ‘learning’ entailed soon shut them up,” she said.

“We started our tour with a visit to the exhibition at the caves and then went on to the actual exploration. There were plenty questions and even more squeals of delight as we crawled through the caves – even granny managed the climbing and crawling through the underground passages,” Melanie added.

“Maropeng was a highlight for all of us, especially the boat ride. The teens took plenty of pictures on their phones to share with all their friends. I was especially pleased that my seven-year-old nephew asked so many questions and spent hours going through the Maropeng exhibition.”
