Journey to the moon July 9

Join Vincent Nettmann, Maropeng’s resident astronomer, as he presents this popular illustrated talk. Using his scale model of the Apollo 11 rocket, Nettmann will demonstrate how Nasa made the first successful journey to the moon’s surface. This event is always scheduled for as close to July 20 as possible, to commemorate the day of the first human lunar landing in 1969.

The evening begins at 17h00 with welcome drinks and dinner at the Tumulus Restaurant where you can enjoy views over the Cradle of Humankind as the sun sets. After the illustrated talk, guests can enjoy a buffet dinner back at the Tumulus Restaurant.

Binoculars are recommended so you can participate in this laser-guided sky tour. Subject to weather conditions, you will be able to observe the sky objects and the moon through a range of large-aperture telescopes. Remember to dress warmly to fully enjoy your “journey” to the moon.
