Maropeng: a ‘world-class’ attraction
Radio presenter and blogger David Batzofin is raving about Maropeng after spending the weekend with us. He says the hotel, food, views and exhibitions are world-class.
Batzofin presents Travel & Things on the community radio station 1485(Radio Today), takes photographs and writes about his experiences. He was very impressed when he visited at the weekend, describing Maropeng as a “world-class facility”.
The four-star Maropeng Hotel, which has been operating since 2006, is a five-minute walk from the Maropeng Visitor Centre and only 10km from the Sterkfontein Caves.
According to Batzofin, the positioning of the hotel is unusual and fitting. “It is so nicely hunkered down, so as not to disturb the environment, that we couldn’t see it and got slightly lost lost.
“The staff were so attentive, the food was nice and the views were awe-inspiring.”
He and his wife, Carolyn, spent Saturday and Sunday at Maropeng. “It is a wonderful, wonderful place,” he said.
The couple spent about an hour going through the Maropeng exhibitions. “The exhibits are well maintained, nothing was out of order,” he said.
“It was clear that the guides enjoyed their work; they were knowledgeable and friendly.”
Batzofin has travelled extensively, both abroad and locally, and says, “Maropeng stood out; it could have been anywhere in the world.”
He is looking forward to returning in summer when, he says, the grass will be green. And even though it was winter, “The views were spectacular.”
